IntroductionDesign BasisKey Notes

As one of the medical clean equipment projects, the ICU intensive care unit (ICU) plays an important role in providing first aid and life support for critically ill patients. It has requirements for air cleanliness and temperature and humidity. In addition, some medical gas, water supply and drainage, and strong and weak electricity installation projects also account for a large part of the cost, and the configuration of some basic equipment is also essential.
The comprehensive ICU includes: surgical intensive care unit (SICU), internal intensive care unit (MICU), emergency intensive care unit (EICU), etc. Specialized ICUs mainly include burn intensive care unit (BICU), respiratory intensive care unit (RICU), nephrotic intensive care unit (UICU), neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), obstetric intensive care unit (OICU), pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), anesthesia intensive care unit (AICU), transplant intensive care unit (TICU), etc. Coronary Heart Disease Intensive Care Unit (CCU), Cardiopulmonary Intensive Care Unit (CPICU), Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU), neurosurgery Intensive Care Unit (NSICU).

Decoration engineering: The decoration of ICU buildings must follow the general principles of no dust production, no dust accumulation, corrosion resistance, moisture and mold resistance, anti-static, easy cleaning, and compliance with fire protection requirements.

Installation engineering: The ICU should have good ventilation and lighting conditions. If possible, it is best to install an air purification system with airflow direction from top to bottom, which can independently control the indoor temperature and humidity. The temperature in the medical area should be maintained at around 24 ℃± 1.5 ℃. The air conditioning system of each single room should be independently controlled. Install sufficient induction type hand washing facilities and hand disinfection equipment, with one set per bed in a single room and at least one set per two beds in an open hospital bed.

Basic equipment: The equipment in the ICU must be equipped with bedside monitors, central monitors, multifunctional respiratory therapy machines, anesthesia machines, electrocardiographs, defibrillators, pacemakers, infusion pumps, micro injectors, oxygen inhalation devices in standby status, emergency equipment for tracheal intubation and tracheotomy. In hospitals with better conditions, they are also equipped with blood gas analyzers, microcomputers, electroencephalography machines, B-ultrasound machines, bedside X-ray machines, blood dialyzers, intra arterial balloon counterpulsators, blood and urine routine analyzers, blood biochemical analyzers, etc.

Precautions for equipment configuration

*Select a monitor based on the monitoring object
When designing an ICU, it is important to consider the type of patient being monitored and choose a suitable monitor. The ICU for cardiac patients mainly focuses on monitoring and analyzing arrhythmia. Percutaneous monitoring is required for infants and young children. Patients with unstable conditions often require waveform playback.

*It is best to choose monitors of the same brand and model in the same ICU unit
The bedside monitor is the foundation of ICU. Modern monitors are mainly composed of ECG, respiration, blood pressure, temperature, oxygen saturation and other test components. Some monitors have extended functions. The expandable function modules are made into plug-in models. When other functions are required, new function modules are inserted into the host slots for upgrading. It is best to choose monitors of the same brand and model in the same ICU unit. Each bedside machine is equipped with general commonly used monitoring functions, and non commonly used components are used as backup options. Each unit is equipped with one or two, which can be plugged and unplugged for application.

*Conductive paste and defibrillator should not be placed separately
The defibrillator, as a last resort instrument in the ICU, can be said to be the last glimmer of hope for saving lives. It is important to ensure its good and durable performance, and it is prohibited to use it solely as a electrocardiogram monitor.
Two defibrillators must be equipped in the ICU to avoid malfunctions during use that may delay rescue opportunities. Do not separate the conductive paste from the defibrillator.

*Special infusion pipes should be selected for infusion pumps
The infusion pump is a commonly used treatment equipment in the ICU. To ensure normal use, the infusion pump must be a designated dedicated infusion tube, and the use of general infusion tubes or blood vessels is strictly prohibited. Detectors must be applied during use. The sound alarm should be set to the on state.

*Pay attention to the use of micro pump models
Micropumps are also commonly used treatment equipment in ICUs. It can achieve more accurate liquid infusion than infusion pumps, and to ensure normal use, standard syringes should be used. Note that the needle plug of the syringe must be able to smoothly push through the needle tube. When using, pay attention to the consistency between the set syringe model and the one used, to prevent errors in the amount of liquid injected due to the inconsistency between the set syringe model and the one used.

*Monitoring of the oxygen supply system is important
The oxygen supply system is divided into central oxygen station pipeline oxygen supply and oxygen cylinder oxygen supply. It is very important to monitor the oxygen supply status of the central oxygen station pipeline oxygen supply. If conditions permit, a terminal oxygen pressure detection device should be set up. If there is a low oxygen pressure or oxygen supply interruption, it can be reported in a timely manner, and a certain amount of fully charged oxygen cylinders should be reserved according to the number of beds. The main focus of oxygen cylinder supply is to ensure the classification of empty and full cylinders. Obvious markings can be hung on oxygen cylinders, and if possible, oxygen cylinders can be painted with special colors or markings specifically for use by lCU.
